  • LOSE YOUR FEAR OF QUITTING
  • RECLAIM YOUR HEALTH AND SELF-RESPECT
  • AND SUCCESSFULLY BECOME A NON-SMOKER?

SMOKING: ADDICTION OR HABIT?
Cigarette smoking is not simply a learned behavior or a bad habit you've gotten into. It is much more complex, more powerful, and worst of all, more deadly than most bad habits. Nicotine is a highly addictive drug. Each puff delivers a dose of nicotine to the body via the lungs within seconds. Tobacco users receive nicotine through the skin in the mouth and sometimes the stomach. Yes, there are some habits or automatic reflexes associated with cigarette smoking. Putting something into the mouth becomes a habit and so does the feeling of holding something between the fingers. Certain beliefs are acquired in order to justify the "habit." For instance, the belief that it relieves stress or provides a form of pleasure, such as after a meal.

Most smokers are horrified at the idea of drug addiction and convince themselves that smoking is just a habit they have gotten into. If that is true, why continue with something known to damage your health and shorten your life? When they can't easily quit, they then acquire the belief that habits are hard to break and that is why they can't quit. The truth is, habits are easy to change and we do it all the time--when we want to. When you buy a new car and the turn signal is located in a different place, you quickly break the habit of reaching for that area and change to the new location. We have the habit of driving on the right side of the road but quickly and easily break that habit when we go to England.

The truth is, smokers only smoke to get their nicotine fix. Does that mean it will be really hard or painful to quit? NO. Although nicotine is a highly addictive drug, you are not that badly addicted to it--it's not like heroin. You may be surprised to realize you already experience withdrawal pangs each time you finish a cigarette. Because nicotine is quickly absorbed into your body within seconds of inhaling it, it just as quickly leaves your body. Within half an hour the nicotine is reduced to half its strength in your body and within an hour it is down to 25%. It is the mental attitude and your beliefs that are the more difficult aspects to overcome. The good news is hypnosis is just the tool to help you do that. Read on about how hypnosis can help you become a happy, content non-smoker, and learn the facts about weight-gain after quitting.

HYPNOSIS IS A GREAT TOOL TO HELP
You can use hypnosis to reprogram your powerful subconscious mind to change your thoughts and behavior. You will not have to rely on willpower or substitutes to help you stop smoking for good. It's not magic, but it is truly amazing. You can stop smoking, dipping or chewing tobacco, or using nicotine replacement products, IF you have taken the time to prepare and are now ready to make the commitment to stop for good. Read on for more details about the Smoking/Tobacco Cessation Program using hypnosis to help you become a happy, content non-smoker.

HYPNOSIS PLUS
In addition to hypnosis, you will be given educational materials, including a wonderful eye-opening book, which you will be expected to read or listen to before your second session. This audio book ($20 value) is six hours on CD's and is included with your first session. It helps dispel the myths of why you smoked, why you haven't quit and why willpower alone rarely works. By the time you are nearing the end of the book, your fears have been removed and you are ready to move forward with the rest of your life as a non-smoker without feeling deprived and without "needing" nicotine ever again. It is not necessary to get rid of your cigarettes before your first session as you are allowed to continue smoking while reading the book. This allows you to observe your attitudes, behavior, taste, how you feel, etc.

HOW MANY SESSIONS WILL IT TAKE?

Through her years of experience, Ms. Harwell has found that about 50% of clients could quit with just one session and the others could succeed with an additional session or two. However, the relapse rate was unacceptable. Sure, they could be re-hypnotized and quit again, but permanent cessation was the goal, right? The solution was to change the mindset to remove the feeling of deprivation. If you don't feel you are missing out on something pleasurable, you no longer have a need to smoke! When she began using a multiple session educational program approach, her success rate more than doubled. This program educates you to dispel the myths that create the illusion that cigarettes provide a pleasure or emotional prop and eliminates the fear of withdrawal. Remember, the goal is to be a non-smoker forever, whether it takes one, two or more sessions to accomplish it. It takes whatever it takes. Doctors and drug manufacturers don't promise you will be cured in one visit or two visits. Every one is different. It takes whatever it takes. Make the commitment to do whatever it takes for YOU to be successful.

YOUR HYPNOSIS SESSIONS
Mrs. Harwell's one-on-one sessions are tailored to meet your individual needs. Please allow about two hours for the first appointment. You can save some time by downloading the Client Information Sheet and having it filled out before you come in. PLEASE NOTE: It is not necessary to get rid of your cigarettes before your first session. You will be given specific instructions regarding your "last cigarette." The first part of the session includes an explanation of how hypnosis works, how it helps you stop smoking and time to go over your information. You will have an opportunity to ask any questions before having your first relaxing hypnosis session.

1. Preparation to Quit - Hypnosis is used at the first session to introduce you to hypnosis and to reinforce and strengthen your commitment and confidence to become a happy, content non-smoker.

2. The Last Cigarette - Your second session is scheduled after you have finished reading the audio book and you are ready to have your last cigarette. It is the actual Stop Smoking session.

3. Reinforcement - Your third session is scheduled three to seven days after your final cigarette. Reinforcement during this transitional period is crucial and an important key to your continued success.

If needed, additional sessions are available at a special discount for the smoking cessation program only. These can be used to fine-tune any specific issues and can include suggestions for healthy eating habits, exercise motivation, general health or confidence issues. The follow-up sessions are briefer and take only about an hour.

THE KEYS TO YOUR SUCCESS

DESIRE - A necessity! You must first WANT to quit. This doesn't mean you don't like to smoke. But don't expect hypnosis to work if you are only "trying it" because someone else wants you to quit. You must be at a point in your life where YOU are ready to quit for yourself.
PREPARATION - Read/listen to your audio book and read all your educational materials to dispel the myths and eliminate the fears. Use your reinforcement hypnosis CD's. You will receive specific instructions at your first session regarding your "last cigarette."
COMMITMENT - Having a strong desire to quit means that you will do whatever is necessary to quit smoking, dipping, or using nicotine. If you are really committed to quitting, you will read/listen to your book, read all your educational materials, use your self-hypnosis CD's consistently, and keep your follow-up appointments.
POSITIVE ATTITUDE - If you think you can or think you can't, you're absolutely right! Hypnosis is a great tool to help make the transition easier without strong withdrawal pangs and cravings. There is no "try." There is only "do" or "don't do." Expect to succeed and you will. You'll feel proud of your accomplishment!

HOW SUCCESSFUL IS IT?
Hypnosis has been proven to be the most effective means of smoking cessation. According to the "American Journal of clinical Hypnotherapy," in a 1968 study involving 1000 smokers, after using three hypnosis sessions, 94% were still nonsmokers after 18 months. In 1992, "New Scientist Magazine" reported success rates for the various methods of smoking cessation: 60% were successful with only one hypnosis session and 30% using only a recorded hypnosis session. Compare that to 24% who used only acupuncture, 29% with exercise and breathing therapy, 25% with aversion therapy, 10% with nicotine replacement therapy (gum or patches), and 6% who used willpower alone.

SHOULD YOU QUIT SMOKING BEFORE. OR AFTER. WEIGHT LOSS?

Many smokers are afraid of gaining weight after they stop smoking. Consider this:

FACT: The average weight gain of five pounds is due to the return of the sense of taste and smell and the normalizing of the metabolism. Additional weight gain is usually due to eating as a substitute for smoking. You will be given suggestions not to substitute food for smoking.

FACT: Smokers who are overweight and keep smoking, tend to remain overweight. The best time to quit smoking is NOW-before you start a weight loss program. You'll be even less willing to risk weight gain after you have lost the excess weight.

FACT: Stopping smoking is the single healthiest thing you can do for your body. It adds ten years to your life! Your blood vessels are no longer constricted, your heart doesn't have to work as hard, your circulation improves, cholesterol is lowered and high blood pressure is lowered. Diabetics are better able to control their blood sugars. The lining of your lungs begins to cleanse and heal, allowing you to breathe easier. Your doctor will be ecstatic!

FACT: You will be able to exercise easier as a nonsmoker because you'll be able to breathe easier and have more energy and stamina. Suggestions will be given to take care of your body, including eating healthy and getting regular exercise.
